Reem is the founder and president of Muslim Collective, formerly known as Muslims for Progressive Values, a national grassroots progressive Muslim organization.  She is a PhD student and Research Assistant for the UNESCO Chair, Cultural Diversity and Social Justice, at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation. Reem has a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Economics (Brown University, USA) and a Master’s degree in Development Management (London School of Economics, UK).  Her PhD research encompasses a comparative analysis of countering violent extremism policy and the role of intercultural dialogue.  Reem’s research interests include progressive Islamic thought on social justice and human rights.  Reem is also a Fellow of the progressive Islamic think tank, the Critical Muslim Institute, based in the United Kingdom.
Reem’s address will include references to the diversity within Islam and the nature of progressive Islamic thought and practice.
